The very spectacular historical Split Rock Lighthouse was completed by the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1910. Split Rock Light Station which quickly became one of Minnesota's best known landmarks is one of the most recognized and photographed icons in the state. Nowadays, the Lighthouse is restored to its 1920s appearance.
The historic lighthouse is surrounded by spectacular Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. The Park offers a number of leisure activities and scenic trails around Lake Superior and North Shore.
Currently the Split Rock Lighthouse is undergoing reconstruction during spring 2008. The work on the lighthouse will be complete by the site's opening on May 15.
